Do you want to become a more responsible guest, who thinks about sustainability and the environment when you are at your holiday home? Here are some simple tips on how you can become a more responsible cabin whisperer.

1. Travel environmentally friendly or use the car less

Travel to Trysil by public transport. There are daily bus routes from Oslo. You can also take a train or bus to Elverum, and a bus from there. If you drive an electric car to Trysil, you will find several centrally located charging stations for electric cars on both sides of Trysilfjellet and in the center of Trysil.

If public transport is not an option for you, we recommend using the car as little as possible when you are at your holiday home. Take advantage of ski buses that take you around the mountains or down to the city centre for free if you have a SkiPass. Have you seen the green kicks in Trysil? These are our rural parks, which everyone can borrow freely. Just remember to take good care of them, and put them back in one of our many parking lots. A fun and good means of transport in winter. In the summer, it's all about cycling. If you are going on a longer trip, a good tip can be to rent an electric bike.

2. Eat and shop locally

Support your local community and small local providers, shops and manufacturers by shopping locally. Many of our eateries offer locally produced and/or homemade food and drink. There are also many producers of local food that keep the food traditions from Trysil alive. Everything from hot-smoked whitefish to Trysilstomp. The cheese producer Bryn gårdsmeieri has brought home many awards for its fantastic cheeses. Several of these can be found at grocery stores in Trysil.

3. Bring good habits from home

Most of us are very good with energy-saving measures at home. Bring the good habits with you to the cabin and turn off lights in rooms you don't use and use water wisely. Check with the local craftsmen about what measures they recommend for the cabin - they have good experience with holiday homes.

4. Take care of and enjoy nature

We want many generations after us to experience exactly what you will experience in Trysil nature, so we hope you will tread carefully and leave as little trace as possible. The right to roam gives us the opportunity to experience and use the nature around us. And we have every right to do this as long as we pay attention, and follow the rules when we are out on a trip.

  • Follow the path
  • Do not dispose of waste in nature. Remember to clean up after yourself
  • Respect animals and birdlife. Remember to keep dogs on a leash
  • You can light a fire, but use established fire pits
  • You can pick berries, mushrooms and plants for your own use
  • You can fish once you have bought a fishing license

5. Explore nature with a guide

Do you want to try dog sledding, rafting or ice fishing, but are not sure how to do it? Go on a guided winter tour or summer tour! In Trysil there are a bunch of guided activities all year round. When you travel on activities with a guide, you can be sure that your safety will be taken care of, while at the same time you get the best experience and local knowledge from someone who can.

6. Preserve culture and tradition

Visit and get to know the cultural monuments in Trysil, but act in such a way that there is no damage to objects or the surrounding nature. Did you know that Trysil has the world's oldest ski club, and Tryslingers believe that "the cradle of skiing" was actually in Trysil? Or did you know that Trysil has fostered many famous writers and poets? Trysil Public Library is a good place to search for Trysil's history. In addition, Trysil has many cultural events in the cultural center Hagelund.

The pole hunt in the center of Trysil is also a good tip for learning more about the culture in Trysil.

7. Workcation

Try working from home while staying at your holiday home. The advantages of working from home in the mountains are many. How about extending your lunch break to do some skiing in the middle of the day when you have the slopes almost to yourself? There is also evening skiing until 20.00 three days a week in Trysil.

Or how about being able to go out cross-country skiing when you see that there are freshly prepared cross-country tracks? Stay tuned skisporet.no. More use of your holiday home gives many good ripple effects to Trysil, and maybe some positive health effects for you?

8. Order plowing when you need it

If you have a holiday home in Fageråsen, you can download the app Brøyte.no, and order snow ploughing before you arrive at your holiday home, or when needed. In this way, unnecessary plowing is avoided and the environment is saved.
