One of our main areas of sustainability is green energy. Here you can read more about what this entails, what is being done today and what goals we in Trysil have set ourselves.

What?
Green energy is about reducing emissions, using less energy, and switching to renewable energy sources. Reducing climate emissions is crucial for Trysil to continue to be an attractive ski destination. Because in the long run, pollution will lead to less snow and shorter winters.
Tourism is one of the industries in the world that consumes the most energy. Energy use is an area where Trysil can have a huge impact. Tourists use energy and water with a greater intensity than the locals. By investing in green energy, we can have a direct impact on this consumption.
What is being done today?
- Norway's oldest district heating plant heats the entire city centre, in addition to the Welcome Centre and Radisson Blu Resort Trysil.
- SkiStar Lodge has heating through its own pellet system (local heating system). The plant is dimensioned to be able to heat nearby cabins and apartments as well.
- All electricity Skistar uses is renewable energy. The ski resort has an energy-efficient snow production facility.
- In Trysil, all SkiStar ski prepping vehicles and cars run on HVO 100. It reduces CO2 emissions by as much as 90%.
- The ski prepping vehicles are run "cheaper" than elsewhere, due to GPS measurement and increased awareness of efficient driving among the drivers. This significantly reduces fuel consumption.
- Modern and environmentally friendly ski buses transport ski guests around the mountains and the city center so the car can be parked during their stay (ski in/ski out).
- The cabin areas are guaranteed access to ski resorts on skis – the car can be parked.
- Less cars parked reduce the need to use space for parking.
- Investments are being made in LED lighting, solar cells and energy-efficient snow production machines, and technology and GPS control are being used to prepare ski slopes as environmentally friendly and efficient as possible.
- Many companies are environmentally certified and have implemented a number of good environmental and efficiency measures through this work.
- A pilot project with autonomous buses is being planned.
- Reuse of water in the river.
Focusing on green energy makes the destination more attractive, nature becomes cleaner, it reduces noise, we conserve natural resources and at the same time we use saving energy sources.
Goals towards 2030:
- SkiStar aims to achieve at least net zero emissions in its own operations by 2030.
- Each company must run an environmentally adapted business with as low energy consumption and greenhouse gas emissions as possible and utilize the opportunities that lie in renewable energy sources.
- When purchasing and making new investments in the businesses, sustainable choices must always be considered.
- Assist achieving the goals in Trysil municipality's Energy and Climate Plan.
Why?
We depend on the renewable revolution to save the climate, and Trysil depends on the right climate if we are to continue as a tourist destination in the future.
Reducing greenhouse gas emissions is a win-win situation for Trysil. The development of more car charging stations, facilitating more green energy and cleaner air is appealing to both guests and cabin owners. And in some cases, decisive for where you choose to travel.
