What?

Trysil wants everyone to have a good time and feel welcome. The destination facilitates experiences for all age groups, disabilities and levels of experience. It is also important for Trysil that people with different cultures, ethnicities, beliefs, genders and orientations feel looked after and included in society.

Creating cohesion and good relationships between different people is part of the culture in Trysil. Diversity is seen as a great strength, it helps to create more openness and community among guests, cabin owners, companies and Tryslings.

In Trysil, it is important that everyone should be able to participate in the experiences and that there should be activities for all tastes. Being present in all phases of life and embracing the whole family is something Trysil cares about. Trysil wants to help get more people to try new activities and become more active.

What is being done today?

  • The ski resort and bike paths in Trysil are adapted for wheelchair users, different age groups and experience levels. Other activities such as ski school, horseback riding, river activities are also accessible for people with disabilities, in addition to hotels, apartments and several of the rental cabins.
  • The work culture is enriched with many different nationalities that create added value for the destination.
  • Trysil also tries to get more people active by, for example, the ski touring program "Top 10 Trysil".
  • Trysil facilitates holiday camps for the disabled, e.g. Funkis Snowboardklubb and MTB Adapt Trysil.
  • Trysiliaden – Trysil municipality organizes the Olympiad for the disabled with 350 participants from municipalities throughout Eastern Norway.
  • Businesses in Trysil facilitate internships for work experience .
  • Annual international party: old and new Tryslingers gather for a Chai Time party. The goal is to highlight and celebrate the great diversity in the municipality, get to know each other better and have fun together. This happens across both age and ethnicity.
  • All information about Trysil's offer to employees and guests is available in both Norwegian and English. Trysil is changing its logo to Pride colors in June to show that they are part of celebrating queer love and diversity. There are several Pride events in various places in Trysil, including the Pride parade and the Trysil Queer Film Festival.

Goals towards 2030:

  • Tourism is a catalyst for job growth and for population development in Trysil municipality. The specific goals for year-round jobs and population are manifested in Trysil's municipal plan (the community part) and Trysil municipality's business plan.
  • Create local involvement and commitment.
  • Several approved apprenticeship companies. Companies that have the prerequisites for this must take on apprentices and trainees from schools, colleges and universities.
  • Establish more internships for young people in education.
  • Have job quality that safeguards ethical principles.
  • Facilitate increased integration and decent work for immigrants and people with disabilities.

Why:

The focus on diversity has a great social and economic value for the destination. Being an inclusive destination will attract more visitors, which in turn increases income, reputation and activity levels.

Before the pandemic, the destination had 80 percent international guests in winter, and is well adapted to different cultures. This is unique as a mountain destination in Norway and Sweden. With Scandinavian Mountains Airport on the Swedish side, Trysil will be even more accessible to local markets in Northern Europe.

When we look at the emotional connection, belonging is one of the most important human needs we have. It's good to feel included and safe when you're traveling to a new place and new activities.

Companies that invest in diversity succeed on many levels: on the balance sheet, in employee surveys and in securing and keeping the best employees. Diversity also leads to increased productivity, innovation, better decision-making processes, increased employee satisfaction and lower turnover.
By being inclusive, Trysil creates room for more innovation and gains access to more talents in working life.
