Trysil Bygdetun, founded in 1901, is located in the center of Trysil and is considered the country's oldest village museum.
The museum today includes farmhouses, farm buildings and outfield buildings - a total of 21 buildings that show how people in Trysil lived in the 18th and 19th centuries. The oldest building dates from around 1650. The contrast between eastern and western influences is something that contributes to giving the building style its distinctive character. The collection includes, among other things, the three most common types of farmhouses; the three-roomed room, the loft room and the Akershusian living room plan, which has approximately the same ground plan as the three-roomed room. Trysil is a typical forest and mountain village, and on the slope behind the yard the museum displays a complete seating area.
The village garden is located above and east of the city center, with a great view of the Trysil Mountains. There are signs for Trysil Bygdetun on Storvegen (in the middle of Trysil city center) and on Korsbergsvegen.
Special activity days are arranged on Sundays during summer. The theme for these days will include crafts, food and music traditions from Trysil. For more information about the summer activity days, see the Trysil/Engerdal Museum website.
The café sells coffee, waffles, cakes, ice cream, tea and mineral water as well as various printed materials and books.
