Tommy Åsheim is the general manager at Laaven, but sitting in the office is one of the worst things he can think of. He prefers to mingle with the customers, helping out wherever it needs and be where the action is. And he likes to surprise you.
"You have to surprise the guests, it's not enough to just deliver. The guests must feel that something special is happening. That's what we're trying to achieve. We have never invested more time and money in guest experiences, as this year," says Tommy excitedly.
And we are not talking pennies that Laaven has spent on the winter's surprises.
– Sound, light, atmosphere – everything is improved!
Active ownership
Tommy knows how to surprise and likes to make fun of himself. He shows this, among other things, when he puts on his fur coat and afterski goggles and makes an entrance as his alter ego Tommy Schnell.
" Hehe, Tommy Schnell is a good example of how important it is to take a break from everyday life," Tommy Åsheim grins. At Easter, I can promise that Laaven will be visited by Tommy Schnell. In the meantime, a younger Åsheim is running the show (and shop).
His son Christopher is running the afterski show at Laaven now. Together with his business partner Martin Bråten, he makes up the duo Braaheim and they have created several afterski hits. The fact that both father and son are involved in Laaven is an example of what Laaven is – a family business.
"Laaven has three owners: in addition to myself, there are Dag Rønningen and Erik Vestmo. We are owners and employees, working late and early. And we like the fact that both my son and Erik's daughters are actively involved in the running of the place. That is a success factor!
Escape from reality
Everyone at Laaven thrives when its busy, and the service includes fika (coffee), lunch, afterski, nightclub and various events. But there is no getting around the fact that it is the afterski that is most visible, that creates the most life and movement, that is known outside the municipal border and also provides good earnings.
"Hit the gas at afterski, that's how it should be. Then I'm happy", Tommy smiles.
Laaven's basic idea is based on three small words that have great significance.
- We want our guests to have a little break from everyday life when they are at afterski with us. Therefore, the message is Escape from reality. When there is "full speed" at afterski, we have achieved just that, to get the people on a small escape from reality. It's good for the soul!
Bling & Bubbles
The owners of Laaven are committed to offer a great experience, and are always looking for improvements and upgrading the building and inventory. In the last two years, they have also spent over 4 million NOK on just that. This year, the focus has been on the construction of a new large sun terrace, up against the ground, with a VIP area. In addition to extra sound, lights and screens.
"We had to put in a little extra effort this winter as well," Tommy smiles. The plan here is some high-class, good vibes and feel-good afterski. We also think that bling and bubbles fit in here. We think bling-afterski, boubbles and table dancing can be a cracking winner.
So guys, get ready for a fabulous afterski experience. Sound, light, atmosphere – Trysil and Laaven have it all!
These days, you have to surprise your guests - it is not enough to just deliver!
