Work in the service industry?
There is a large selection of restaurants in Trysil with ski in and ski out, from nice cafés with take away coffee to evening restaurants with table service. Some places are located in the middle of the slope with no road access, and snowmobiles or skis are the only possible way to get to work. Pretty special! And we'd like to use the same word for the cooperation between the restaurants in the area - they all have the same ethos and know that the best way to success is for everybody to cooperate. A seasonal job in Trysil has been the start of a good working life for many full time employees in Trysil today. It often starts with a desire to combine a seasonal job with skiing and snowboarding fun. But many quickly get settled in Trysil, and what was intended as a short period of time quickly turns into several seasons and eventually the whole year. Trysil's summer investment in mountain biking has made it possible to live and work all year round. With a permanent year-round job, the road to buying a home, car and getting more established is there before you know it. Life itself, in other words.
Many nationalities
Trysil municipality has about 6600 permanent residents, where about half live in the center. In the busy winter season, the numbers are completely different. And that reflects everything Trysil has to offer. And what a journey it has been! 60-70 years ago Trysil was a village with forestry as its primary industry, and is today a modern place with tourism as the main source of income. With Norway's largest ski resort as your neighbour and being so close to unspoilt nature, no wonder why many seasonal employees stay on, both summer and winter.
And many nationalities have chosen to settle here. The mix of locals (also called Tryslingers), other Norwegians, Swedes, Danes, Dutch, British and more, makes Trysil an exciting place to live and work. Some of these also create their own workplace. And within the restaurant industry, there are several newcomers who have started their own place and who are been successful in their ventures.
Variety and collaboration
Trysil's eateries have a large diversity in what they offer, and the eclectic mix of everyone who works with food and drink also helps to offer diversity. It is an exciting mix of local and short-distance to European, American and Asian. Good coffee and pastries are important to Trysil's ski guests, and the barista experience is highly appreciated. Some places are open during the elevator's opening hours, other places are evening restaurants. The dialogue between all eateries means that they complement each other and have can offer different experiences.
